Temperature dependent performance......

Following on from earlier post about intermittant lack of power, I have come to the conclusion that the car seems to have a lot more poke when the outside temp is cooler (about 12 degrees or lower).  Now I realise that colder air = more dense, but I wouldnt expect a noticable difference.  Any ideas gents?

Does it change also with the car just been started or once its warmed up? Diagnosis would be best as probably one of a hundred sensors braoken if not a leak where warm airs being sucked in at a guess.

Its strange, a couple of minutes after the car has been started I would say performance is normal, but once warmed up properly, I put my foot down, the car feels as if it is about to take off for a split second then I feel a slight jolt and it feels like its holding back, acceleration is not as expected but it will rev fine.  When idleing the revs twitch a little bit but nothing major.   I changed the diverter valve recently but it made no difference, none of the vacuum hoses looked split.  I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and take it in to the garage. 

Forgot to say that fuel economy is pretty poor as well although the MPG readout varies around the same figures that it has always done (not that that means much).

Mine sounds like that but i havent done much about it. I changed the coolant temp sensor but didnt help. So now im wondering if its the cat but let us know how you get on.

Hopefully something simple like that, on the one hand I hate paying £80 to the stealer (yes £80 for initial diagnostic), but then I don't want to go replacing all the usual suspects till I strike lucky....  Its booked into an indy garage on Friday morning so here's hoping they know their stuff.  Will let you know.

PS has anyone used those £20 fault code readers from ebay?  Any good?

Someone near you might have Vagcom which will let you read the fault codes without paying VW prices.

Right well took it into the garage, they found no faults and said there was nothing wrong with the car.  They did slam 'fuel cleaner' (Redex type stuff I presume?) into it and it seems to have made a huge difference, much more responsive.  Feel like a bit of a div - should have tried that myself.  Oh well at least it wasnt anything serious.
