Oil light flashing on cornering.
« on: 30 June 2006, 09:54 »
My oil light, lights up and beeps if I take a corner or in fact any kind of turn at speed.
When I say speed I mean anything over around 30mph.

I have checked the oil level, and topped up to maximum, it only seems to delay the warning for a few seconds or so.

Anyone familiar with this?

mine does this only if the oil is low ,check the easy things first ,change the oil switch ,have you got the right dip stick ,is the plastic end on the dipstick tube missing or broken (the dip stick will go down in more giving you a max reading at a lower oil level, has the sump been off and the baffel plate not refitted , then if all this fails you need to remove your sump and check that the oil pickup tube is sitting below the oil level (sometimes they can be bent upwards out of the oil a little )

every time the oil light comes on your starving the engine of oil not good at all get it sorted quick

What oil have you got in there, perhaps its a bit too thick?
If it hasn't been changed for a while drop a bit out and toip it up with a litre of Dexron II (ATF) and drive it gently for a week.  The detergents in the ATF will break up alot of the sludge & oil deposits, after a week drop it and refil with synta silver oil along with a genuine or equivilant quality oil filter.

Depends on the engine mate, VW will sell you synta silver for older motors ;)
Edit: tho he didn't say what engine/year, was in MK2 mode!
Edit2: It's more dependant on the milage and the overall condition of the engine really.  Some find that their motor likes Gold, some find that it drinks it and leaks all over as its a bit thinner than Silver.  I've never heard of anyone having problems with silver though, which is why I recommend it and use it myself :)

VW and GSF will sell it to you :)
I don't claim to be an expert on oil, but I've always used Silver in my MK2s, and I put it in my MK2 2e 2.0 conversion and it seems perfect atm, no noise, no oil lights and not much oil leakage.  (should have replaced the sump gasket before I fitted it, oh well )
