Great - I'd sooner pay 20k and get a proper GTi or better still pay 30k and get a proper R32 - unavailable to the USA

Ps in standard form the USA GTi is £12100 even with the pound so strong against the USA, then once you have added the sports seats and tyre package there more like £14,173.40 and still dont have climate control etc!

AND it will still be riding high!

Please don't shoot the messenger!

Are they that badly kitted out?

My American ex colleagues were telling us how they pick up GTis for peanuts - well still cheap, but agree with you, it looks all wrong, more of a 'GT' model than a GTi.

Seems they deal at 20,240, about £11.3k - which is still premium price for the US - when our UK built Mini's start at equiv of £8,800.... no wonder BMW supposedly makes minute overall margins on Mini.

PS - re aircon, The Motorpoint car that I looked at had NO aircon. Granted it was new and 16999, but no ac in 2006!

I was wondering which market that was for? (most Motorpoint are euro import cars) - unless it is a delete option in lieue of sunroof in some euro markets.

It had a sunroof but no AC of any description.... me thinks that will be a pain in the ass to shift....

No AC at all!!

Its the one on Autotrader now - £16995 brand new unreg 3 door red.

Unsurprisingly, I first noticed it 3 weeks ago - its still for sale!!

We're having a re-jig of our cars and a mk5 Gti was a poss replacement for our A4. Got all excited when I saw it advertised in the SUnday Times... but NO AC whatsoever!!!

Has your VW dealer chum told you of any plans for a fruitier TDI?? I know of the 168 GT coming out, but would love something that looks like the GTi (seats and front end) - not so bothered about having extra grunt over 170, but it would be nice

Yes it's available to order now its the new GT!

We only just bought our new GT TDi after our last one was hit by a stolen car!

I think she wants an EOS next so we won't be getting the new 170 GT TDi I'm afraid
