Seat Bolstor wear
« on: 28 June 2006, 20:28 »
Seem to have a stange thing happening to the drivers seat bolster - clearly as a result of people getting in and out - but after 17k and a year or so, the bolstor on the door side most forward "point" has started to break down inside - and gone a funny shape. Anyone seen this? I assume it is covered by warranty...

I have only had mine for just over 2 months and done 6k miles but I have noticed how flimsy the bolster was when I bought the car.  I suspected then that bolster wear on the Mk5 GTI will happen a lot sooner than it did for the Mk1, 2 and 3 models.  I didn't expect it to go as soon as you are saying however   I thought 3-4 years of use would break it down.

I think for my Anniversary Edition - if and when it comes out - I will get a spare seat or something as I plan to keep it for a long long time and keep it low mileage and mint for shows in 25 years time

I agree with Doc - kick up a fuss!

We had a MR2 Roadster from new, and Toyota were only too happy to replace the drivers seat TWICE due to excess wear!! That along with 2 sets of alloys, 2 sets front brake disks (minor surface rust) headlights etc etc in 2 years and 15k miles.

VW could learn a bit from Toyota on customer service - however, it'd be better if they got it right first time!!

My Mk4 recaro's started to deform - but not until 4 years and 70k.

Just been to the dealers and the warranty manager looked at the car. Absoloutely no argument what so ever. Booked in for the 13th to have the foam seat back replaced.

Note that my seats are cloth and the cloth is fine - it's the foam underneath....
