Suppliers of 2.0 conversion parts and advice
« on: 27 June 2006, 15:10 »
Hi all,

Since the demise of TSR I am little stuck for suppliers of the parts I need to finish my 2 litre conversion (PB to 2E).

I am looking for a tall block S/S exhaust manifold, uprated engine mounts and something to blank off the breather hole in the engine block or a suitable replacement part.

Also I have both the 2E and PB dizzy, which one should I use? I think that I will need a spacer or something to use the PB distributor which TSR sold.

Does anyone know of another supplier who deals in these sorts of things?

Cheers

Matt B.

For the breather, you could always just plumb it in, or just blank off the end of the plastic breather housing (glue something in the hole perhaps?)

Which dizzy you need depends on what injection system you have, if you have a digifant engine the std 2e dizzy will work perfectly, job done.
If you have k-jet, then you need to use the k-jet dizzy with vacuum advance :(
The only ways round this I can think of:
1. Convert to digifant injection
2. Fit a 16v ignition module (no idea if this will have the correct ign advance map though!!)
3. Find an adaptor somewhere
4. Get the dimentions and get one made, I'm sure there are plenty of guys on here with access to milling machines

Thanks for this. I have the digi system so it should be straight forward.
I think I will try to plumb the breather system in, at least I can still get some of these parts from VW.

Any ideas on the manifold? I am looking for a stainless steel manifold and downpipe 4-1 that will fit the slightly taller block. :undecided:

That may be an issue, but you can get more clearance by tilting the engine back a little bit (taller front mount) and bashing the zaust tunnel a bit.  Its still tight but it can be done :)

I have not found anywhere else that sells the adaptors. I have found that there are a few American suppliers of manifolds (headers in the states). I am awaiting an email to see if the American parts will fit the UK spec cars and if they ship to the UK.

Cool, let me know what you find out as this part is all I need to almost complete the job, I will also be after a larger front engine mount too as I have got a 4-2-1 stainless manifold and from what rubjonny has said I will have to raise the front of the engine a bit so the car can accomodate this (as well as giving it a good whack too!! )

If only i'd started this project a month earlier when TSR could still supply the necessary parts... Who supplied them is my question, or were the adaptor plates milled in-house at TSR??

Has anyone got the part I need as a spare? You never know.

you may or may not have enough clearance with the stainleass manifold, some manage to get it in OK and some don't.  I know my std 8v GTI exhaust has tons of room anyway!

I found a 4-2-1 stainless manifold from the states that will fit the tall block conversion http://www.performance-cafe.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=69&products_id=1262. They said they could ship it to the UK for $64. I am not sure what the import duty would be on something like this, but before import duty this works out about £160. Not too bad I think.
Best to shop around though, so I will do a little more digging.
