Just thought IÂ’d mention, after having my friendly chip/dent repair chap out the other day, someone IÂ’ve been using for 10 years, he informed me that after 2007 all cars will have to be repaired using water based paints, to comply with emission legislation.
He and companies like his will need to change all there stock of solvent based paints and clear coats for the new water based type.
Because there water based, they will need to fit van heaters so they donÂ’t freeze during winter, or take the stock indoors (not practical) Also water based paint wonÂ’t respond to infared lamp speeding up the drying process in cold/damp conditions, which will add to labour times
This changeover wonÂ’t come cheap, and he foresees a fair few one man outfits who currently offer these services to go out of business.
So getting to the point of this thread, if you have any small repairs your thinking of getting sorted, IÂ’d get them done soonish.
