how do I ---- throttle cable Q?

`Ok, no ego here, I admit I know almost nothing about the layout of me own car's running gear, s'ok,
one day you might need help with your boat or mother in law, ya never know?
 yeah,    happy cruising, pedal hits floor without help from foot?  Do I operate on that panel above where me feet go to access the first look at point ?   It aint parted at the carb- looks fine, _ got her home using a hooked bungee running out the bonnet, thru the window, was fun!_ 
 Please tell me I can  do it w/o going to a garage / ramp/ rip off!   with basic tools... can I?

If its not come undone or snapped at the carb end then yes get looking at the pedal box end. A new cable wont cost much and should be easy enough to replace with basic tools. Maybe a little fiddly but easy enough for any monkey.

 

P.S my boats leaking. What should i do?

Easy job mate
First take the dash under tray off, and have a look at what you're dealing with.  It may have just slipped off the end of the accelerator calbe, if so hook it back on and off you go.  If it happens again, you'll need to replace the rubber bush on the accelerator, or you might get away with rotating it round a bit.

If the cable is indeed snapped:
1. Take the plastic rain tray off, a few clips round the edges and it will pop free.  The early ones are made of cheap flimsy plastic and its likly to crack, if so VW will sell you a hard plastic cover, or visit your local scrappy looking for late MK2s
2. Pull the cable from the engine bay, and unhook from the carb
3. Thread new cable in the same way, make sure the grommet is seated in the hole in the firewall properly
4. Hook up the pedal end, then the carb end and adjust so that when the pedal is to the floor the carb is just fully open.  It helps to have a mate sat in the car while you do this

well kindov,  the  pedal end - the bent hangy onny bit had snapped.
 instafix  is a pirated bit of an asda trolley nearby, manipulated and squeezed   yarrr!
 Will do untill payday, 3 days.  thanks for the info guys, I'm a noob eh!
