Advice needed

Hello

I need some advice as to which MK2 Golf i should buy, either 1.8 driver, 8v or 16v.
I am new to golfs and do not know much about them but iam hoping that you can help me decide which is best for me.
Things for consideration are (in order)

1. Fuel consumption (any difference between them)
2. Reliability
3. Performance

Basically i need a car that i can use for my 60 mile daily commute to college, iam a student and i want to keep running costs, i.e fuel low if possible.
Your thoughts would be most appreciated as i do not know which model to choose!

Well me and you both are in the same boat well sort of...

Firstly the Mk2 Driver, Havnt driven one soo I cant really comment on it.

The GTi 8v, I drove my first one last weekend (weekend just gone) and it was great performance wise I loved the feel of it and it was pretty punchy but I think it could have been better perhaps the specimen I drove wasnt as well looked after as it could have been. As for fuel economy when not hard driving it I got about 30mpg according to the On Board Computer (MFA) under hard driving it ranged from 21 to 27 mpg. But before I knew it I was on the motorway doing 100mph! 

The 16v as many will tell you and as I will its faster still and more fun to drive, after driving the 8v GTi I am more inclined to go for a 16v.

I think for you its more going to be a weigh up between the GTi 8v and the Driver but in that contest I would go for the GTi, more smiles per mile I say

get a gti, if you get a driver you will always be wishing you got a gti.

if you want a good compromise between fuel economy at something thats nippy then go for the 8v GTI, i get about 38mpg out of mine average.

But if you are not too fussy about fuel economy then get a 16v, 30mpg i get out of mine, and its more fun to drive in my opinion but we will not get into the 8v vs 16v debate again.

Neaty you say you get about 38mpg out of your 8v OMG the one I drove on Sunday managed to get 30 Max

I think it could have been a lot quicker too
