Cabin Condensation
« on: 15 December 2003, 21:11 »
Peeps,

Can you's help me before I go mad? I've got a 97P (98 Model) Golf VR6 and I suffer terrible problems with the cabin condensing up after driving for any length of time. It's not a slight mist, but all windows are completely covered, I have to keep kitchen roll to dry the windows before I can drive.

The problem is worse in winter, and using the normal heater \ blower or air conditioning makes no difference. I'm assuming I must have a leak somewhere but I cant find it? Just wondering if you's know of any where I could check, that may be a known problem? Is it worth getting the Air Con checked \ serviced? I'm at my wits end now and thinking of selling due to this hassle, as much as I love the car.

I'm in Scotland and also wondering if you's know of any good garages I could maybe get to check things out? Have tried the approved dealer crap and they want the car for 4 days to rip seats and carpets out, but wont commit to a price, so I thought no thanks.

All help is greatly appreciated....

Andy

Hi m8,

Ye I've tried every thing I can, but nothing seems to make a difference. Gonna get the heater matrix checked, but I can't feel anything on the carpets.

Thanks for the help.

thinking about it... i've only had this happen to me a few times.. mostly its forgetting about the recirculate thing...

i rarely put the air-con on.. normally just the blowers on warm.. or off..

BUT one time it was because i'd parked somewhere i dont usually..  I normally i park at the front of my work and thats kinda outta the sun, esp towards the end of the day.. the time it was all steamed up i had to park around the back, and was point towards the sun.. this is only going back aabout a month.. was kinda damp n stuff outside... that day it was a real b!tch to demist the screen.

Had a similar prob in mine that was driving me crazy too.

Try replacing the cabin filter...when you have the old one out, give the area around the fitting a GOOD clean and make sure that it is dry and that there are no leaves or any other cr@p in there.

Worked for me!!

Sunshine does exaberate the problem, but also happens in all weathers. Really does piss you off when you have to spend 10 mis, drying every damn windows before you can see out.

Had it happen on my old MK. 2, it was the heater matrix.  It was leaking just enough to create condensation, but as with yours, there were no signs of coolant in the floor well.

Had the car checked over, the Cabin Filter & Heater matrix are both okay. Mechanic thinks it could be the Alarm & ICE wire's coming into the cabin from the battery?

Any of you's think this is possible to let in significant amounts of moisture to cause condensation?

Thanks.
