The should be like a button on top of the cap that tests the sensor. Push it down and see if the brake light comes one.

ahhhhh yes, ok i'll give it a go later on this evening when i leave work, will i need to have the iginition on ? and tape the rod/button down?

You'll need the ignition on and whilst you're looking at the dash, get an assistant to push the button.
