Digital mileometer mk3 golf - FAO The doc?
« on: 22 June 2006, 12:31 »
Posted in mk3 but was advised I might be able to get some help here

Hi,just joined up to the forum and I have a problem with the digial milometer on my mk3 N reg golf. Its not a GTi,but a 1.4 so hopefully someone can still help

The digits for the miles travelled/trip miles dont show their full digits,or show none at all.

I've been told that this unit can only be replaced by a VW main dealer as the milage will need to be reset to the old unit too and its connected to the immobiliser  Or can it be done by someone who can digitally correct the milage on a new lcd unit...

Is this true and how much will I be looking at to get it replaced? I'm not aware of the car having an immobiliser,it doesnt even have central locking? I turn the key and it starts the car, unless the immobiliser is the key type????

Thanks in advance for the help

Hi there

Your clocks are U/S

On the MK3 the Immobiliser is NOT in the clocks, this is only on the Mk4 up.

You can simply fit a used set of clocks and if the miles are wrong just post 'em over and pay for the carriage and I'll do them for free.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thats music to my ears!  Seems the info I got from one garage (supposedly they fix VW too!  ) is totally wrong!

If I need the milage correcting on the clock I know who to get hold of,much appreciated and I wouldnt expect you to do it for free,id send you a cheque for a few quid too as I couldnt accept a foc job, guess im just too soft minded lol

The clocks fitted have just 1 button below them if that clarifys the clock. (Then on the rhs there is the clock itself with 2 buttons for the time adjustment) Im guessing this is seperate display to the milometer but ive not taken to dash off to inspect).

Just out of interest then,on the mk3 clocks, how does it memorise the milage on the clock once disconnected? Button type cell battery?

Thanks,quick response there!

One last question is there any way I can check the milage on the clock without fitting it into the car or asking where I got it from (if indeed they know)

Last thing id want to do is get them fitted and then clock my car 30+k miles  Knowing what my milage is now is another mystery!
