Urgent Convertible question
« on: 22 June 2006, 09:08 »
Sorry to barge in here on my first post asking for help but I have a slightly urgent problem. Last night a friend managed to break the right hand handle that clips the hood to the windscreen. Does anyone have any idea where I might find a replacement?

I've phoned all of the local breakers yards (well, the ones that weren't just answerphones) and been laughed at so far.

Does anyone have any advice on where I might find a replacement?

I had been hoping to introduce myself here, talk about how much I love my Sportline (I only bought it a few weeks ago but also had one from '95 to '99 and had been missing it ever since) and ask just how hard it is to fit a new hood as it's the only thing wrong with my car. Or at least was. Until last night...

I dont think you can get the handles at GSF you can try I guess, but I've seen them on ebay. You could also try this chap 01525 210978 as I got some cab parts from him earlier in the year and he may have some or be able to point you in the right direction. Also, put out a request in the parts wanted on this and other VW forums and you just might get some joy.

Some say it's easy to fit the hood some say not, I personally got a trimmer to do mine and if you do your own dont forget you need to cut out a hole for the back window and if you get that wrong then it's going to need a new hood.

EDIT: I knew this was out there somewhere, see here to replace hood --> http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=34662.0

Oh yeah, and welcome to the site.

Thanks for the advice. No luck yet though I need to look further for breakers.
gpcvwaudi.com think they might be able to get one in a few days (have MKIII in stock)
VW direct might be a possibility but expensive.
Anyway, very busy at the moment and I still haven't got round to selling my Leon Cupra so I guess i'll survive with the Golf sitting under a tarp for a while longer :(

Gibby, nice pair of VWs. I had a '76 Bay Window Devon when I owned my previous Sportline. Lowered, expensive restoration (lots of welding and brand new doors) lovely paint (Weird dark greeny blue with a just-off-grey lilac on the top, including the smoothed pop top), recon engine, tie dyed curtains... Lovely to own both until the Camper started rusting just two years later.

Thanks. I took the camper out for the first time this weekend to VW Action at Uttoxeter with my son, it flew down the M1 (well, as fast as a camper can fly  ), I kind of forgot how much fun it is.

Try VW , sometimes they can be surprisingly cheap on some items.
