Yeah , might need one. I'll have a look for you if you want. Don't bother getting the car tuned there if there is no rolling road.

a mate at work suggested I ring the guy that services his car, he said he could do the cambelt for about ?180...but he'd need to check, thats with the tensioner chenged too. Sounds a bit more reasonable than VW!!

With regards to the shiny steering wheel/mileage thing, I'll bung in my two penneth!

I have done nearly 48k in my PD150 and the steering wheel still looks brand new. That said, I have VW floormats fitted to all four footwells, and the drivers one has a hole in it, and has done since about 25K, so I guess interior wear will come down to the specific user.

if its a 99 its surely only just come out of warranty, and (I would gues) have a full dealer service history. Can you not trace mileage through this?

S11EPS: It has had a full VW history and the MOT was done in late Feb this year with a  miliage of 59k. when you say the steering wheel looks brand new - is that shiny or matt?

VR6 - he said he uses genuine parts, thats why he said I'd have to check the prices with VW also he mentioned changing the tensioner too coz he said they come in 2 kits, just the cambelt or the cambelt and the tensioner...does that sound right?

Yep i would get a new tensioner as well. A engine hoist may not be needed, just a jack and a brick under the engine. Does the 1.8T have the side engine mount by the cam belt? a lot of the newer engine designs seem to have this.

I have no idea about where the cambelt is. But this service guy said it wouldn't be a problem, I said VW said you would need to hoist the engine and he asked what engine it was and the year and said no problem...he's just a mobile guy that comes to your work and does the service in the car park so he definately doesn't have a hoist.
