Mk 2 16v Cuts out!
« on: 15 December 2003, 01:04 »
My mk2 16v cuts out sometimes when the revs drop (eg like stopping at traffic lights) Anyone out there had this problem and know what causes it?

Cheers

does it only happen when its cold.

mine does this, basically its in need of a service

in the mornings it when starting the rev's barely sit about 500rpm! but gradually after a couple of mins it will lift to 750, before eventually getting 1000rpm when up to temp

but in this time, if i pull up to a junction the revs will plummet, and then just pick up to prevent it stalling

Gambit, did changing the dizzy help?
If you problems warming up then probably the warm up regulator.

yeah it runs sweet as a nut now once its up to running temp, no misfiring splutter or anything

ill have to check the warm up regulator

No it cuts out when the cars warmed up. Its fine when its cold. Car was serviced about 3000 miles ago. When i started using Optimax a few months ago it didn't happen as much but it still happens.

Also I checked the plugs the other day, one of them is slighty more sutty/black than the others. Could it be the ht leads?

Sotty/black plugs can mean overfuelling. Get a gunston colortune and screw it in that cylinder in the spark plug hole. If that cylinder is running richer than the other cylinders then the injector is leaking. Also check ht leads, rotor arm and distributor cap.
The hall sender seems to be a common fault too, check that if everything else is ok.
