Help with my Golf GTi 1.8 T
« on: 19 June 2006, 23:32 »
Hi, I hope someone could help me to work out what model my new (used) 2000W Golf GTi 5Dr 1.8T Mk4 GTi is. It has a red i on the rear badge, but also a walnut dash insert, nice 3 spoke soft leather steering wheel and recaros front and rear seats are recaro badged too. It's not leather, but the cloth is very resilient and nice quality. The inside of the service book says GOLF GTI TURB EXCLU 110KW D3 5-G. I have a feeling it may be a model called an Exclusive but can only find one on Pistonheads with full leather. The 110KW would indicate that it's a 150PS model, (I thought the red i meant 180?) Hoping there's a Golf GTi expert out there could cast some light. Whatever, I am really impressed with the car. Cheers, Steve.

'red i'  doesnt mean squat.. the dealers threw on whatever badges they felt like.

its a plain and simple GTI.. cloth recaros were standard on the early ones, possibly an AGU engine in yours.

FYI, you can find your engine code on a sticker in the spare wheel well.  Will also have your paint code on it, too.

A straight forward 150bhp. The exclusive refers to the name given in some other markets I believe (mine said the same)

Originall, the 2.0 (or 1.8) non turbo GTIs had all silver badging and the turbo had a red 'i' But as has been said, don't read much into the badging.

Didn't the ''red'' i indicate it was the turbo version & the silver ''i'' for the non turbo ?.

That was the idea, but as Topher says, the f.wit dealers stuck on whatever they felt like!

Yep - My mate's old 99 'T' turbo came with a red 'i', whereas my 2000 Turbo came with the all silver.
