how fast is a 1985 mk gti 8v

how fast are they, whats the bhp and 0-60.

i only ask as i was having a little bit of a race with a xr2i and beating it easily and i thought golfs were just not that quick from the countless times i raced one with a nova gsi and beat them. was supprised how quick it gets into 3rd gear and they rev up pretty quickly indeed

I think they have about 110 bhp standard with the 16v knocking out 130 - 140. Not sure if these are correct figures but they stick in my mind for some reason .

I never realised Mark 2 golf's were so quick until my mate tok me out in his 16v, from that day on I have loved em. They are like the complete package, power, reliability,lots of choice, can look proper smart too..........

a standard 112bhp 8v also tops out at 115mph on paper   so I dunno what mine's putting out getting to 130mph

ive had 125 on the clocks on my 8v (86) but speedos are normally out to a certain percentage after 100mph, the 8v aint about top speed its the old anygear anyspeed thing yeah the engines are old (well mine is) but bottom end torque is pretty dam rush rush i reckon (well compared to my mk4 20v)
