1.8T Remap Question
« on: 18 June 2006, 14:45 »
Hi,

I've got a completly standard 1999 1.8T AGU. I want to remap the ECU for the extra torque.

The question is are the remaps that are available are customised per car or is it generic remap thats flashed onto the ECU.

Was wondering whether to replace the DV (baileys or forge recirc), fit a milltek exhaust and upgrade wheels to A8 18" or any other components before the remap. If its a standard remap then it would'nt make a difference which order I did things in, but if its customised per car then obviously want to remap according to what extras have been fitted.

Which of the following would be recommended: REVO, APR, AMD, Superchips, Jabba?

Don't think cambelt has been replaced, car has only 43k on the clock, is it worth doing this as well?

Any help appreciated.

Hello..

I have eary 1.8T which has 18" wheels, milltek and Forge valve fitted prior to APR remap (well pleased). As far as i'm aware my re-map was standard, i didn't watch the process but they didn't get my car on the rolling road when they did it. In this case won't matter when u mod and when u re-map. I'm sure i've heard that other companies offer a more customized product but am sure someone else here will correct me if i'm wrong.

Cambelt used to be every 80k but think now VW recommend evrey 60k miles.

Thanks Flipmode.

Do these remaps come with the ability to switch from stock ECU to remapped ECU? or does this depend on what particular brand you go for.

Also can the stealership\insurance companies detect the remaps?

Check out the link below, it should have all u need to know about the APR product, i'm sure u can find link on this site to the other re-map providers or its prob just as easy to find their websites via google. With APR depends on age of your car, not sure of the exact dates but if your model came with cruise control as standard then think they use that to switch from standard to re-map mode. My car is early model so the 'tuned' mode is always switched-on, which isn't a problem. i can't imagine ever wanting to turn it off!! if you drive sensibly then your mpg will be the same as it is in standard mode, i can promise u that cos i drive 35mins to work and can get 40mpg out of her if i'm not in a rush. obviously when u start flooring it you use more juice.

and as far as i'm aware the VW diagnostic tool canot detect the APR software. Again havn't had this tested and may differ between the diff re-map providers.
