VR6 info please!
« on: 13 June 2006, 15:34 »
A mate of mine is looking for a VR6 Golf. He has seen a few VR6 Golfs going for affordable prices now. I dont know anything regarding the performance i.e top speed, 0-60, MPG? What are they like? I have a MK2 1991 16v GTI, performance, economy etc are they simular?
Any advice would be great

Well, since the above link answers all the standard "what to watch for" questions, I'll answer these little points, since I own one (currently a non-working one, but ah well..)

MPG...  less than 30 pretty much.  Constant motorway driving you might be able to average over 30MPG, but forget it the rest of the time

0-60... Not sure what the official time is... 7.something I think.
Top speed: somewhere around 140Mph.

Just general drivability is great.  All that torque makes for really easy cruising around in 5th all the time.  The really great thing about them is the noise... Fit a K&N or similar induction kit, and the noise they make when you floor it is simply awesome.  It really will make all the peeps nearby have a look.

Happy hunting

Just to add, using a k&n with a drilled box gives seriously good throttle response. Infact i'd go as far to say that you will get a noticeable increase in torque between 2000-4000rpm.
