Hey Gem, what about this in the for sale section if you want to keep standard, stock mk1 1600 for not much more than a new engine putting in yours  (£1500) ! http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=39124.0 He's only in Preston, take off all the new bits on yours, put on this one, sell some of the other old bits to recoup some cash, jobs a good 'un.
......now officially dubless.

That might not be a bad idea if its a good solid car

no, thats a terrible idea, you can't break that golf, its just not in the vw spirit.

a 1.6 gti or 1.8 gti engine wont be too hard to source

Can't think of a funy or whitty comment

A money pit isn't really living up to the vw name if you ask me - dubs should be cheap to run  :nerd:

Like I said before Gem (when you had the rusty floor) - its really hard making the decision to get rid of your car, its even harder finding a worthy replacement - but you wont look back once you've done it - I did it and i've had 3 years of trouble free motoring

Thanks for all the help guys! Will give it all some thought. Will take it to another garage to make sure. Anyone have any idea how much it would be to get my engine re conditioned? Or it that a bad idea? I don't want to get rid of my car - but if something else bad goes wrong after this I may consider it!

Volkspares/bigboystoys are £469 DIY & £37.50 delivery (no crazy e-bay prices then ) or £699 fitted and come with a 12 month/12000 mile guarantee - I really miss my one  and wouldn't of bothered with the 16v conversion if I still had it (the bl00dy DVLA crushed the car ) - it sounded like a sewing machine

So is that £699 fitted for a re conditioned engine? Or is that how much to get mine re conditioned? Mine sounds like a sewing machine at the monent!
