Central Locking - Resetting
« on: 07 June 2006, 21:17 »
Hi

since the battery from my car was disconnected the central locking has not worked. The pumped has been cheked with a 12v supply and the fuse checked - both ok. Does anyone know how to reset it. This also happened to my partners Polo when the battery was connected - the polo is remote central locking and now both car can only be opened and closed manually one door at once with the key.

Thanks
JULEE

Cant see why it should need resetting. Disconnected the battery on mine loads of times and never had that problem.

What year and is 8v or 16v? The latter ones should have full closure and immobiliser.

Hi

the GTI is 8V 1997. I have had some cutting out problems -see my post on page 17 of the 'Cutting out - oil light flashes' on the MKIII section. It's quite long winded. I just find it strange that also the polo we own had the same problem with central locking when its battery was disconnected.

After changing the pump at a scrappy for a fiver (of which there are 2 types i believe) it didn't work straight away. Only a few doors worked or it was very slow etc. It took me a day to re-pressurise the locking by opening and closing the locks.
One thing which was very odd though was after a good while of doing this, the motor stayed on for about 2-3 minutes !!!! I thought something was wrong, but it appeared to work ok after that !

the doesnt mean a thing.. lol..

i've checked fuses many times before and its been a fuse.

sometimes you have to test them with a meter as you cant always trust that you can see the break!
