Removing door cards
« on: 05 June 2006, 20:25 »
I want to remove the door cards for a couple of reasons, to install a crossover for component front speakers by hiding it properly and also to tint the front windows by removing them from the car (coz this makes it soooo much easier as you probably know).

Any tips when removing the door cards like stupid plastic clips that snap or anything like that?

Regards,

Matt

Hi Waffs1984,

Just removed the door cards on my Mk3 in order to cure incessant creaking. If you can get hold of a proper door clip remover (it looks like a two-pronged screwdriver) then that would be better. I purchased new clips for both doors - you'll need 14 normal clips. There are also 2 differently designed clips for the upper front of each door. Think I paid about £6.

I would recommend getting 10-15 sq ft of e-dead or dynamat to cover the doors with. Dispense with the plastic sheeting and foam that you'll probably find in there. The e-dead will stick down all of the cables that might otherwise vibrate. I cut a little hole in the e-dead to get the door locking link through. Make sure the window trims are firmly in place as these can also creak, and I'd also apply some silicon cleaner (armoural) to the door seals to moisten them up a little.

I now had completely creak and vibration free doors!!

Good luck!!

Great cheers buddy! I'll get on the case, is the clip remover a vw tool or a universal thing??

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

The door clip removal tool is a universal thing and you should be able to find one from any decent motor factor. I bought my e-dead from e-bay. 10sq for around £20 ish.

best regards,
