Fluid
« on: 10 December 2003, 18:07 »
Hi, noticed some fluid under the car the other day.

When checking under the hood, noticed my pas resivour was really low, what fluid do I need to refill this, and where do I get it from.

figure I'll refill it and see if it goes down again before hunting for leaks, as the fluid could have just been rain run-off

Is the fluid in the resovoir red or green? If it is red then someone has filled it with auto trans fluid, just go with that. If it is green then you need the fluid from VW. G002000 I think.
Steve.

Yep, there's a definate leak just filled it and it's dropped (about 2cm) after a drive after having a quick look I suspect the hoses are at fault. Where's the best place for this sort of stuff, VW mains tealer?

PAS hoses can be very expensive for these cars :(

are you sure its the hoses??

im only after replacing the PAS in mine

they either go at the rack, or there is a small rivet on the rack also that can produce a slow steady leak.

the pipes dont leak as they are metal collared unions into the rack & the pump.

new pipes are ?180 from ECP, even more from VAG and about ?45 from a scrapyard - but these are very rare (i was lucky!)

easiest way to check it, is to get it on the ramps, and get somebody to move it lock to lock while ur under it!

all in all it cost me ?200 to get a 2nd hand rack & fitting

I have reason to believe that the hoses may have been replaced at an earlier time but NOT with proper hydrolic hoses, (They just don't look right) I will be investigating ASAP, although getting on the ground and under a car in the weather is not my top choice.

the hoses just look like sh!tty bendy plastic hoses but with about a two inch metal pipe at the ends going into the pump and the rack
