Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Keith and I have been a bit of a car nut since birth. I've owned lots of them - all sheds. My current fleet consists of a 1986 Mini, my Golf, a 2.0 Sierra for another week or so and a Mundano family hack.

The Mini is very much a project:

Whereas the Golf is an attempt at a sensible daily driver. Work so far has been limited to essential MoT work, fitting some alloys (thanks Barkstar) and I changed the oil this morning (at which point it decided to mark it's territory).

Immediate plans are for a look at the back brakes as there's some ominous grinding noises coming from there. Following that, I've got some new springs to lower it (thanks Mac76). A single headlamp grille and grille spoiler and a spot of tidying of the paint and it will look how I want it.

Following that, a bit more grunt wouldn't go amiss.

Completed another quality ICE install. Admittedly this one is poor even by my standards but it was in the garage doing nowt and I didn't want to fry a decent one whilst figuring out the wiring.

It's got me to work and back every day this week no bother. The timing belt tensioner is making some funny noises and there's a grumbling wheelbearing to sort but I'll get that done this weekend.

The ICE install continues with some cheap speakers off ebay to replace the priginals which had no grilles to speak of. I'm going to buy a CD player this week (ALDI have got some coing in).

We now have a Kenwood CD Tuner fitted and I'm borowing my Mum's car (a Corsa!) so I can get the timing belt and the carb gasket thing sorted this week.

Well it's in bits.

The first pic shows the crappy rubber carb mounting in situ for those who've never seen it. Basically it's held onto the inlet by 4 10mm bolts. The second shows the inlet without it.

Timing belt's on as is the carb mount thing. Bit of a play with the timing and it's running OK but making a god awful noise. I suspect the 'new' tensioner but have yet to investigate.

Turns out the noise is the metal part of the cover, I had to ditch the front part as it was knackered so the back part is vibrating. I've decided to ignore it and sort out the dodgy paint instead.

It's going in to have the side painted next week and I've scored some smoked rear lights from ebay. Unfortunately, bastard parcelforce parked one of their vans on the package they came in  but a bit of superglue worked wonders.

Soz about the shadows, 'twas unusually sunny for Bolton.
