split hose
« on: 28 May 2006, 21:13 »
 Hi guys.

I have a '97 8v Gti on an R plate.  On the top of the crank case cover, left hand site is a little black box and the front hose has split .  Do I need to take the top off the box or will the hoses pull off?  Stupid question probably but the manual doesn't give much away about this apart from check them for wear ffs!

Just pull it off, gently but firmly. You'll find it's actually 2 hoses moulded together, kinda... Where the 2 go to the rocker cover, grab them both and pull to the left... Easy enough job, you'll just need a new jubilee clip for the bottom connection on to the metal tube...

  Have been and bought new hoses for motor today.  Apparently VW have now modified the breather hoses.  Where they were joined together and you had to buy front and rear you can now buy them separately but if you haven't got separate hoses already they are £50 inc vat for both!

If I were you bud, I'd call a few dealers quoting your part number (the letters at the end are slight variations of the same part, but make sure they match exactly...)

£50 for that is just a joke.....

Well I phoned lots of places and apparently I live in Hicksville and VW dealer is the only place i can get hoses so it was £50 for two hoses!!  On the plus side I can now have the heater on and not have the car full of fumes any more, its stopped stuttering and using lots of fuel   Only the leak on the radiator hose to sort and a million and one other things now
