really annoying rattle!

The rattle is back. Its so annoying - and quite scary as its not just a rattle it vibrates too. When idling. Its a constant rattling noise which sound like its coming from engine bay. It cant be exhaust as I just had that done. And the vibrating thing is quite scary its not constant at will suddenly shudder quite badly and its really scary. Ive felt like leaping out of my car at traffic lights before it sounds so bad! Its ok when the car is moving. What can it be? And how do I (well not actually me!) stop it once and for all?

Also still got the f**king leak and no clue how to sort that - what I do know is where its coming into the cabin - It was p!ssing it down the other day and i'd just got in car to drive home and noticed it trickling in from the corner to the right of the accelorator pedal. I think most of it gets underneath the carpet here as it ends up in the rear footwell soaking the carpet from underneath ( as I park on a slight hill).

Any ideas? about either problem?

Has the noise come back since the new exhaust was installed? Also did who ever did your exhaust, replace the down pipe from the exhaust manifold? I bet the front down pipe is knocking against the steering rack or bodywork...

Also check the fuel filter (just behind the battery) that its clear of the side wing as this sometimes moves and makes a great rattling noise when idle...

As for the leak... take the car to Joe (TVRGOLF) I am sure he will find the issue for you - the longer you leave the leak to leak into the car the more damage you will cause...

No I had the rattle before I got the new exhaust but I wanted to wait and see if it was the old exhaust rattling but obviously it wasn't as its still the same after the new exhaust.

have you had the bonnet up and listened over the engine to get an idea of where its comes from - front, back, left or right hand side of engine?

It could be many things, if its really loud - its properly coming from bottom part of engine area or the underneath the front of the car...

Yes I have, its coming from the left of the engine bay. I forgot to say, when I had mot, I asked the guy about it and he took cambelt cover off, sanded it down on this machine thing, put it back on and the rattle stopped - so that was obviously only a temporary solution it was back 3 weeks later. The shuddering thing is more scary.

Take the cover off and see if the noise stops.  If it does then the cover may be loose or bent, you could upgrade to a later MK2 plastic cover then
