Oh No!! Subframe required!

Anyone  no where I can get a front subframe from?? It is has just fell to bits, engine has broken off, big hole under the engine mount, and another hole starting to appear at other side???

How easy are they to remove/fit. Local garage says I can do it myself if I want, but don't know where to start

Help needed urgently, needs to be back on road quick!

Woulve thought your best bet would be to find someone local who'se breaking a mk2 and grab one out of there. No idea what kind of a job it is tho!! But if you do take it out of a car you'll have a better idea of how to refit it!

managed to source one in an hour!

Guy in Preston has one in good nick. Picking up on sunday.

Right here

Its an easy job:
1. Support engine with trolley jack
2. Remove bumper (2 17mm bolts either side)
3. Remove the smaller subframe bolt from each side (between the 2 big bolts you removed to get the bumper off)
4. The rusty subframe will now drop off
5. Refitting is reverse of removal

Its part number 20 that effed, are you talking about the fron bit (number 2)?

rart 20 is the subframe yeah, but to be fair i thought you were talking about your cross member from your description. the subframe is alot more work but just a matter of supporting the engine, then undoing evrything that ic connected to the subframe. ie steering rack, engine mounts etc

just to be clear you defo arnt talking about the bit at the front under the radiator?  If not then its a little harder as you have to support the engine & the gearbox, plus swap the anti roll bar etc.  Not only that you have the risk that the subframe captive nuts will shear off

I'd recommend that you replace the rear engine mount with a 16v G60 one while you have the room:

defo not the front one under rad. Had it up on the ramp.

what happens if the nuts sheer off?? Can't get bolt out? (angle grinder??) then new bolts?

the steering rack bolts are sort of captive and the nuts are the way of tightening/loosening, not fun if they are knackered!! i had a few blue word when i replaced mine!
