finding an original Mk3 - help !
« on: 22 May 2006, 21:49 »
Hi all at GolfGTi.co.uk, (this thread has just been posted on the 'newbies' thread)

been purusing many various GTI websites lately and finally decided to sign-up to this happy bunch of V-dub enthusiasts.

Now, I have a quandry and a few questions.  I have just been appointed into a new job which for me means new car, though at the moment budget is limited (and given how much my missus spends on shoes it is limited !!).

I have always loved Golf GTi's, for me GTi's in their original condition give off the right image, an image of reliability, solidity, that bird who throw off her mink coat years ago in the advert.

I need your advice of where I can find an original late Mk3 Golf GTi 3 door, preferably in black or dark-blue, no mods, just as it left the factory in other words. One with low-ish mileage would be nice, one that has been cared and loved for by a true petrolhead.

What should I look out for, anything that would set my bank managers pulse into overdrive is not a position that I want to be in, and with the potential that I may become a father sooner rather than later, I need to know that those lovely guys from the AA won't be on my Christmas card list as I had become a regular user of the service.

So, where do I start, how much should I pay for an original minter ?

Cheers all.

best wishes

Duncan

shouldnt be too hard.. i paid 4500 for my valver about 2.5 years ago..  it was a damn good price then... they've dropped a bit now.. 3 g's or so should be ok.. i think..
Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...
