Some great cars. Used to have an old MK2 GL and am looking to buy a new Golf. I'm toying with mk3 vr6 or mk4 GTI.

hello and welcome

i'd be tempted to go for the vr6 myself but why not get a mark 2, 16 valve perhaps?

Just concerned that mk2 is just a bit old unless you know the owner personally.

I think it all comes down to the way the car's been looked after down the years but from the ones I looked at it seems as though the late MK2's last a lot better than the early MK3's so I ended up getting a 91 J MK2.
It has things that need sorting out but its a lot better than some of the MK3's I've seen for the same money and although the newest ones are at least 14 years old parts are not that hard to get hold of, as with a lot of things though its down to personal choice (and how much you want to spend )
