mk2 central locking

hi evryone, great site. ive just recently bought my first vw, an '89 golf mk2 gti 16v, i paid £800 with 80k miles. there are a few things need doing to it so id be extra gratful for anyones help. firstly could anyone give me a basic guide to what to check to get the centeral locking work. as far as i can suss out the motor for it is in the boot which pumps the locks from there? where is the switch for the motor? and what else should i be checking for? cheers.

the switch for it is in the drivers door. it activates the pump. the other doors have slave pump things in them to open/close the locks. check the switch in the door works and the wiring is good and it is connected to the lock by the metal rod, check the pump in the boot works and check the integrity of the vacuum pipes that run all over the car, they are red or blue in colour as far as im aware
