Has anybody else......

....had coolant level warnings in the cold before?

Was about minus 5 when I got in the car this morning, fired it up and got a 'STOP' 'Coolant level warning, see service manual' warning pop up.

Left it running for two mins (Stop it? Like fcuk, I was cold!) switched off, fired it back up again, no warning. I'm guessing it was frosted up coolant (?) and the short idle time defrosted it and circulated it a bit so it registered as having coolant, but thats just a guess.

Any clues?  ???

My 1.8T does that when its really cold (minus figures).

I had the coolant changed and the sensor etc. checked but it still does it once in a while.

The bloke at the local VW specialist thinks that the float in the bottle freezes and sticks. He said don't worry...

Phew, thanks buddy.

I do approx 35k miles a year, so it's serviced every 15 weeks (last done about 8 weeks ago) so I was sh!tting myself thinking "Where's all my coolant gone??!!" (however, not enought to turn it off!!)

It was minus 5 or 6 at the time too ;)

35K a year and you still manage to play on t'internet, I'm impressed.

My 1999 1.8T has only done 34K...my 2 week old PD130 has now on 342 miles.

Yeah, that's driving to London and back everyday for ya! I leave at stupid-o'clock in the morning to beat the traffic (at the office by 6.30 normally) but never seem to beat the daily grind on the way home!

However, once I get to work the old web browser is opened up and isn't closed til the end of the day!

How you enjoying the PD after having a petrol turbo? You pleased with it?

hey M6 VWW (sorry i'm sure thats not your real name) my PD130 is two weeks old today and has 1570 miles on it.  thats the only problem with having it as a company car, the miles seem to go on so quickly, hey at lest servicing is free. good choice though, as i now seem to enjoy going to meet clients-the only trouble is i sit in the meeting thinking "can i go now, i wanna drive my car!!"

Now its loosen up a bit and I don't stall it any more, I do prefer the TDI to the 1.8T.

I'm sure that the 150 must be even better as my only gripe with my 130 is the body roll compared to my 1.8T. Still I'm even getting used to that and managed to give a bloke in a Leon Curpra a right good hiding on some B roads this morning ;-)
