Strange noise
« on: 21 May 2006, 11:41 »
Anyone had any dealings with a strange sort of exhaust blowing noise
Right my car a mk3 gti 2.0l 8v
There seems to be a noise under load which sounds like the exhaust manifold is blowing i know it is'nt as i have changed both the gasket and manifold and other various gaskets and pipes
Anyway i norticed on my mates mk 3 8v it has the same noise also a mate omplained of this on his seat ibiza
Anyone got any ideas or had any experience with this syptom
The car sounds like a beetle where they have thaa odd sort of noise if you know what i mean
Anyway it is driving me mad and would be greatful if anyone could advise on anything i may have overlooked

Thanks

is it fairley quite rather than the deep farting noise you'd normally get with a blowing exhaust? if so , i think it's fairley common as mine does it too but i don't notice it anymore.

Put a rag over the tail pipe, if it's blowing then it won't stall. If it's not then it will. Easy way to find that out.

mines just had a fat jubilee clip wacked around the cat heatshield to stop the rattling..

the whole system has just been checked over and aligned properly by performance driven since those wayne kerrs at national tyres who misfitted it THREE times couldnt manage to get it right.. and then caused my bumper to get melted..  taken a year to get it right after those ****'s lol

Yea I would say your noise is one or both of the heatshields.

If its the one under the CAT - rip it off! And before anybody says anything I have parked on long grass when exhaust hot! No probs.

If its the one on the downpipe its a bit trickier but have heard some tips around here on how to cure it!
