correct. 16v never has less torque than an 8v across the whole rev range - although alot depends on the state of your own engine!!
As said but max torque 114 ft.lb of 8v is @ 3000rpm, so thats where it feels good, The 16v max torque of 124ft.lb is @ 4400rpm, hence feels good up there, however the torque of the 16v at 3000rpm is 118ft.lb which is only 3.5% higher than the 8v but the kerb weight of the standard 16v is 8% higher so on a torque/weight basis the 16v is 4.5% down on the 8v at 3000rpm. It does not sound like very much but down is down and it does'nt make up this defecit until about 4000rpm as the 8v torque drops off and the 16v torque starts to peak. The engine torque is only a guide as the gearbox ratios are a bit different and its the torque actually applied at the driveshafts which gives accelleration. In 'normal' day to day driving a petrol engine works between 1500 and 3500rpm which is right in the 8v maximum torque band which is why it feels so good, you never really find the 4400 in a 16v until you are in the open and can give it a bit, so its always feels a bit in the doldrums compared with the 8v in the normal 'pottering' driving rev band.

Please lets not start another 8v vs 16v thing....
