iv arranged to get my mk2 golf gti 8v on tuesday but i rung up for insurance today and norwich union said they couldnt insure me because im under 21. im only a named driver at the minute. iv rung around a few places and the cheapest was 1050 tpft. it was more expensive to be a named driver than go on my own.  what doesnt help is iv got a claim against me, iv got pass plus to try and make it cheaper and im 19. are there any insurers that will do third party cheaper because its only a £350 car

to be honest mate, speaking from an insurance point of view 1050 tpft for your age with a claim is not actually that bad!! How long have you had a full licence? We offer classic policies for 19 yr olds but most of our underwriters state you have to have had a full licence for at least 2years on a gti (although if you have had it at least one year i might be able to help). Your always best off doing it in your own name because even if they do let you do it in your parents name for cheaper if they decide you have only done it that way to try and get the price lower they can refuse to pay out (they call it "fronting") and you wont earn any ncb either.

Hope this helps a bit
