Folding mirrors
« on: 19 May 2006, 09:12 »
Where is the fuse located for the folding mirrors on a Mk 4 golf?  The manual shows a picture in the fuse list but this does not appear to be on the fuse box diagram next to the steering wheel?

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Stu

I thought I had folding mirrors but sadly not I have to get out and use my days energy folding one of em' in when I park on narrow streets.

If you do have folding mirrors you can see on the mirrow control switch a setting to bring them in.

Oh nuts this post is pretty useless  :embarassed: might as well hit "post" as I typed it out and would seem silly not sharing my little knowledge.

actually now that the cogs in the brains are moving a little faster, how easy is it to make your mirrows turn in, is there some attachement gizmo type fingy that needs fitting etc ... anyone know any details on how to do this could be my next thing to tinker about with. Any info glady received.

:)

Good point soulman_uk, there must be an aftermarket 'job' for the mirrors? All it can be is a small motor etc?! Or perhaps i'm being too simple???

Folding mirros weren't fitted to UK MKIV's, not as standard anyhoo, although annoyingly you do get the icon on the control switch  if you have electrically adjustable mirrors

not sure about an aftermarket package though  :undecided: only other way would be to fit folding mirrors from a different car but that could end up looking nasty

edit - found this on ukmivs site

to put OEM folding mirrors on will cost £500.00 quid
2 x window motors
2 x door wire looms
2 x folding miorrors
1 x switch

and about 3 hours work

Sheeeeeeeeeeesh!!! I think i'll kill the calories by doing it myself then

Maybe it's something we should look into then! An aftermarket, surely it can't be that difficult  :undecided:

if you think about it you need motors that are powerful enough to fold the mirrors, fit into the existing housing and then you have to wire it all up so it works but doesn't fry all the electrics!!

from what i've been reading you need to replace the window motors too  :undecided:
