Thought I would share this!
« on: 18 May 2006, 23:42 »
Did anybody know this or was I the last to find it out?

When your engine oil is low you get a beeping sound.

Truth!

happened to me a couple of times last week, but only if I was taking a corner fast like a roundabout.
Its quite a loud beeping and I couldnt fathom out where it came from!
So I asked Billy (my son-in-law) all he says is check your oil level. Sure enough it was off the stick!

Yup it's a pressure sensor, there is a light on the dash too. It happens on mk2s also.

wow thats seriously bad!!

i can tell when my oil is getting low from the fact i can smell oil burning!  i've found that because of my driving technique (lol) i need to top oil up from just under the min marker on the dip stick to the max level every 3 months.

btw i know from when i had a leak that the same thing does happen with the coolant system.. there is a pressure sensor for that too which'll cut the engine and beep if the leak is 'sprung'.
Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

If you ignore the beep it stops after a couple of weeks

it's too much of a painful noise to stand for more than 15 seconds!

Nah, crank up some banging teckno and it'll be nothing more than background noise

(MK1MADJ Would like to point out that ignoring the beep is not a good idea really - the engine blew a couple of weeks after the beeps stopped - fair play to the dub though it went for about a month with no oil)

^^^

A colleague of mine did the opposite, put too much oil in their company car focus, the sensor must of been faulty coz the oil light kept coming on so they kept putting more oil in so it seazed!
