interior light
« on: 07 December 2003, 20:10 »

Anyone know how the interior light works ? Mine works but not on the doors, I think the thing that does the delay is shaffed and if I set it to only come on when doors are opened it just stays on. Can I replace this bit if so where do i get the bits from ?

Best to check silly things first. Is the switch on the light in the right place? I thought my interior lights weren't working but I just hadn't put the switch in the right place. To go on when the doors open it should be pushed as far as it go towards the windscreen.

lol thanks for the reply but yes I have checked that and it was correct :(, never the simple things on my cars.

Basically when I put it in the position you say and shut the door you can see it dim slightly as if it is going to go off after a few secs like my last golf but then it just stays on :( damn thing

sounds like crossed wires to me. The switch has probably broken inside.

Take the switch out and test it manually by taking the wires off.
I think the brown wire switches the lights on when connected to earth.

This is pi@#ing me off now, looked at the light and there are no wires crossed, I am sure the thing that keeps the charge for a few secs when you close the door is shafted, there must be summink I can do, you dont realise how simple things like this can get on ya titties til they go :(.

Where can I get a replacement/fix this damned thing ?

The wiring diagrams indicate that the delay circuit is fitted in interior light unit. Maybe changing the interior light would be the answer. You could get the complete unit off a scrapper and try it out.
