You tried the normal brokers sites?  www.Confused.com, www.theaa.com?

I was going through the AA, but I found some company willing to knock 150 quid off through confused.com.

It's amazing what a difference age makes.  I've held my licence for less than two years, got a couple of claims against me, and I can get TPFT on a Mk3 VR6 for 900 quid.  The difference?  I'm 27.

I really would have to suggest getting something small like a 1L or 1.3 for a little while.  I know it sucks, but the amount of money saved would probably be worth it...

Either that or the old 'Be a named driver' thing (i.e. your mum/dad/brother is the main insuree, but you're down as a named driver).  I guess they're probably wise to that these days, and you wouldn't build any no claims for yourself of course, but it always used to save heaps.

insurance is the reason they make damned 1.1 fiestas. Try elephant. norwhich union direct and direct line. I remeber getting quotes of £2200 regularly for my fiesta.

Give elephant/admiral/bell a go and put your mum and dad on as named drivers.

I have found norwich union to be good since they count time on a provisional license as driving experience!

Will probably give HIC a bell this time though since I turn 19 very soon

Insurers are getting wise to this now so be very carefull if you decide to take that route, its called "fronting" where you just insure the car in someone elses name to try and get the cost down and if the insurers suspect this then they can refuse to honour a claim! be warned..... :nerd:

With us the rate is always based on the highest risk driver anyway so this technically would not make any difference anyway. Unfortunatly as others have said £2k for a 17yr old is about the going rate, so you would be better off insuring something small and getting a couple of years experience and no claims behind you (when i was 17 i had a beige 1982 metro 1.0! ), best of luck tho....
