mate this could be one of many problems from a faulty master cylinder to air in system may i suggest that you have brakes properly inspected by someone who knows what they are doing as this is dangerous to drive as the most expected will happen there is no short answer unlees you know what you are looking for

Not sure if 8v got ABS.......

Anyway the symptoms you describe may not have shown up on the MOT, if it had it would have failed but..........
Were you there? Did you watch the test?

As said above that can be any fault, bleeding, master cylinder, servo, sticky caliper. Any or a combination so get it checked out at a reputable place.

i had a similar problem with the lights

got it checked out at the vw garage and they said it was faulty sensors, got new sensors not cheap £60 each. after a few months the light still stayed can on again.

i recon the same happened to your and the person you purchased it from wanted to sell it without ppl asking questions about the light, i must admit i have been tempted to do the same on mine. best bet it to get it tested out but i recommend you avoid the stealership because they are pretty clueless.

am i right in saying it either a colour concept or an VR6?

may i suggest you check cylinder again as mot is only valid on day of check and may have failed after this if you have bleed system recheck as air may still be in system as only couple of pushes on pedal may not have cleared this problem dont want ot teach you to such eggs but have you allowed for vacum when bleeding as on return of pedal you may have taken in air to system this does require two man method to lock of bleed valve as pedal is fully depresed
sorry if i am teaching you to suck eggs
