I just got told the car is now in build and I can expect delivery for about the 17th June. Something of a coincidence that this all happens as I make a formal complaint to the M/D of Volkswagen UK   The Dealer still blames VW for everything and accepts no responsibility for the delays at all. This will be the last time I buy a VW, ever. I only hope the car lives up to its reputation   :undecided:

Congratulations.

That's really good news, however you should never have had to endure this period.

I've a feeling that VW St Ives just wanted to get you as a customer and had to wait for another allocation of GTIs to be able to order... I don't believe their explanation - how come no other dealers are affected? My car was ordered on Jan 12th and arrvied April 17th - 3 months just like the dealer said and I had 18" alloys, but my build wasn't affected by the 'issue' your dealer mentioned.  Nor it seems were any other owners who ordered around that period.

VW have explained... the dealer amended my order in March and put my order date back to day one by doing so. They say I changed my order to have recaro seats! That's quite amusing as I have not done so and nor would I want to. I asked for some kind of evidence to support this and finally .... "err, sorry, we may have made a mistake". They changed my order, realised what they'd done, changed it back and... delayed me getting my car by three months. If anyone is reading this and is thinking of buying a car from any of the Vindis Group dealers - don't bother! Hopefully I will have my GTI soon - it went into build two weeks ago...

One thing that may have happened is that your dealer reached or exceeded their allocation for GTI.  Once they sell their allotted amount of GTi models, they have to place an order with the factory and wait until VW UK can fulfill their order.  It was a bit unfair for them not to mention this to you (they would know as soon as they place the order if this was the case). However, often when we run out of allocation, an extra slot is usually quickly sorted by the factory.  It probably got so far down the line that they were emabarrassed to mention after six months that they never actually had the allocation to order your car.  Your complaints to Volkswagen would of given your dealer the extra weight required to negotiate more allocation.

This may not be the case, but it sounds possible and certainly would explain why they made you wait so long for your new car!

mine was a quickie. it took less that 2 weeks from order to collection. reasons were that a) i chose from one of the ready made ones as opposed to ordering one from scratch, i wasnt too fussed on extras b) it was an ordinary golf, not a GTI.

i think in the future im gona buy 2nd hand. its a good way of avoiding long waiting lists. there are some good bargains out there to be had, especially if the car has got the options that u want. and a brand new car tends to depreciate real quick in the beginning. that problem is avoided with 2nd hand.
