hello people,

Just to fill you in I bought a rust bucket 1982 2 years ago and I'm nearly finished so I have had 2 years of looking through mags and checking out websites trying to get ideas of what i'm going to do.
I thought I would start at the bottom with the wheels, i've got a few questions that hopefully you guys could help me.

Which other alloys could I fit on my mk1, for example could i stick a set of peugeot 205 or bmw 3 series?
Would any other vw alloys fit on there like mk3 gti alloys?
how much would I be looking at for a set of lower profile tyres to fit on a set of original 9 spoke alloys for a gti.

cheers people

  • Hello, my name is John and I'm a dub addict.
4 stud BMW e30 wheels fit perfectly, they often have a slightly lower offset of 24-25 so fill the arches nicely :)

Vauxhall have correct PCD but the centre bore is ever so slightly smaller, something like 0.5mm.  Someone on the forums fitted a set and all was peachy till he tried to get them off again, they were siezed solid!!
This will likely only be an isssue with OEM vaux wheels, most aftermarket alloys will have spiggot rings which you can either replace or open out slightly.

One thing to remember though, is to check the bolt seating before you fit them, most BMW/aftermarket wheels have a tapered seating whilst OEM VW are a ball seat.  Best way to tell is stuff a big lump of blue-tack into the bolt hole and check the shape.

If you need a tapered seating, BMW bolts are the correct thread pitch and will be tapered :)
