steering tremor?
« on: 14 May 2006, 16:54 »
got a wobble on steering at low speeds almost like the car is trying to steer both ways at the same time. doesn't feel like wheel balance and there is no play in any track rod ends or in the rack? poss a buckled rim tho can't see anything. any more ideas?

I'd get my wheels balanced first - it don't cost much.

tried 2 different sets of wheels to eliminate that, both were perfect on other cars.

feels more like a steering problem almost as if its following ruts in the road. have had it on a customers mk2 before but can't remember what the hell cured it because looking at his invoice we replaced just about everything on the front end. Don't want to go down that avenue with this one,its mine and so my money thats getting spent!! The faster you go,the less noticeable it becomes. its not a vibration so that discounts a few things, more of a movement of the steering wheel, not as violent as a wheel balance issue but definately gives more movement of the steering wheel.

I'd start by jacking up the car at the front and wobbling the wheels every which way, any play and something needs looking at :)
