to VR6 or not to Vr6
« on: 14 May 2006, 16:01 »
Hi all, i am in a bit of a possible dilemma, i currently have a mk2 oak green 16v J plate with 162k on the clock, it is good nick a few bodywork issues and other minor cosmetic things but it runs very nice and is looked after, i paid 1500 for her nearly a year ago and spent about 500 - 600 on her straight away to replace the whole braking system including calipers, braided hoses, pads, handbrake parts , also replaced all top mounts, bumstops, serviced etc... , the usual ...

I may have the opportunity to do a swop plus some possible cash for an L reg VR6 with 150k on the clock, the car looked in ok condition but was a bit dirty so i expect it will clean up well, the guy who owns it is a VW enthusiast and i have known him for a while...

so what should i do if it turns out this is feasible ... i have always wanted vr6 , just for the noise (haha) , what are they like on mpg ??? with and without heavy foot syndrome ...  what are the issues with them ? is the mileage an issue on this engine ?

Your thoughts ... comments and opinions could swing how this goes ...

Thanks...

They are very very bad on fuel even if you drive slow (which you wont anyway), don't get me wrong its a well tasty bit of kit but I wouldn't have one purely because of the running costs. Look at it this way, can you honestly see petrol getting cheaper

LOL , i didnt need that... i will see how i feel if i take a test drive of it , i am excited about it but the mpg is putting me off but i only do 150 miles a week to work and back .. and the occasional 400 mile round trip to see the missus but she is moving up here soon anyway (and she is going away from june to october aswell, so i wont be doing much driving through those months)

I havent even had a proper snoop around the car though, we'll see what happens ....
