Badging on GT TDI 130
« on: 05 December 2003, 00:05 »
Hi there

I just had my new company car delivered  and it's a GT Tdi 130 3 dr.  When i ordered it i thought it would be badged as a TDi, but when it turned up it came with A GTi on the boot with a red I and on the Grille was a Gti badge.  I have been told by mates that this should only be on anniversary editions, any clues.  Is there actually a standard rule on what cars have what badges or do VW just chuck any badges they feel like it on them.

Plus i know this is a common question. but i fancy a dump valve on it and i know Motorsport developements do one and was quoted ?450 fitted, sounds silly but i only want one to re-live my GT turbo days,  has anyone seen one of these in action or does anyone on here have one fitted.  cheers

PS My Golf has replaced my old Punto HGT and i've gotta say i am impressed with it so far.  the only thing i don't like is when you go round corners i feel like i'm steering a tanker, Mk4 Golf's do not handle, but hey when you do 700 miles a week you care more about your heated seats and climate control!!  I am dead chuffed and would love to try a 150 Diesel now but gotta wait 3 yrs until this comes up for renewal>...DOH!

Yeah thats wierd with your badges! Theres been loads of debates on here about TDi or GTi with and without red "i" on them.

I got my 1.8t 180 in June brand new and it has GTi with the i in red and no bonnet badge.

We have a 150PDi at work which is the GTi version and looks identical to my 180 except for the contents of the engine bay and the size of the break discs. I've not seen a 130 TDi with GTI on it, the closest I've seen is the GT TDi which is a 130. I'm guessing they might be putting some badges on the front grill now the mk4 is coming to an end?

Also has anyone been to the cinema (or seen on TV) and seen the advert where a guy in a mk4 GTi is driving around and meets a guy with an older model (possibly mk1 or mk2) ? I went last week and wasnt watching it properly due to chatting with my missus, but basically a black GTi fully loaded with sat nav is driving around a city and the guy pulls over and gets out to meet another older GTi. The thing is the mk4 looks like an anniversary Golf GTi with the extended body kit, but I didnt think they still sold it?

Also yeah your right mate, the Mk4 is the perfect motorway cruiser, especially when you load it with extra equipment..

Stiff handling is not much good when your on a motorway for 3 hours and it makes your teeth rattle in your skull!

Sounds to me like its the 150 BHP Anniversary edition, maybe your boss likes you more than he's letting on???

I got my new PD130 last Friday and it has a TDI badge on the back with red DI.

What size wheels does your new motor have? And does it have 3 headrests in the back?

No is definately a 130bhp one as it has the 15's on it and black interior, Was sourced from dovercourt  VW in Battersea.  The only trouble is the wipers smear really badly, have cleaned off rubber and used some creen polish on screen but still smears. Do you think i am beiong over the top if i take it back to VW to get them to change the wipers, cos it i only 1 week old???

Not at all, when i got mine the wipers were garbage, and it needed three new rubbers on the 10K mile service.

Take it back now, or you'll only end up paying for em!

I have just bought a GTTDI 130 PS and the badge says TDI with a red DI. I think they just stick on what they want.

This is interesting.  I have just bought an X-reg (2001) Golf GT TDi, it has red D and I on the back and six gears. - Dealer told me it is a 115bhp, does anyone know different, or how I can find out the truth?

It's important as my insurer won't pay out if I tell 'em it's the 115 and it's not!

I don't have any paperwork yet as I pick it up on Saturday  (I'd just like to say, on the test drive, it felt quicker than my current Alfa 156 2.0 T-Spark 150bhp petrol, which ain't slow)!

 ;)

other than having a pocket rolling road, i believe there is an info panel around the spare wheel area that gives out the engine power in kw, others can correct if i read this wrongly else where

Last year I had (what I think was) a race with an Alfa 156 T-Spark against my previous GTi 1.8 T 150, down the A43, island to island and I really left it behind, either that or it wasn't really trying/didn't want to..I thought they were 140ish bhp? We've got 2 in the fleet at work and all I can say is they are NOT built to last :-)
