did VW ever sell a mk1 diesel soft-top?

a fella is saying his dad used to have a LHD diesel cab

was there ones made, but not sold in the UK?

I certainly hope they didnt - could you imagine the stench and noise flooding in when you have the roof down!!
I have never seen one, or heard of one - even in Teneriffe - the home of the retired MK1 cab - there were none!
