i have golf gti 8v 1995/n after i stop it doesnt like re-starting sometimes it can take hours for it to re-start i dont really drive far in it so its not after afew hours of driving or anything.it first started to cut out now im on this problem as well this is y im to scared to drive it to far i dont know if i will get there and back.changed the usual plugs,leads,rotor arm,dizzy cap,ecu relay,fuel pump relay,batterie still cutting out and not restarting.any ideas would be great cheers mark

i'd say have a go at cleaning the throttle body, only a 5-10 min job

If its anything like my mk4 the coolant temperature sensor might need replacing.

ok took my car to the vw specialists thursday morning put it on diagnostic machine nothing showing at all so we decided to change crank impluse sensor all in all cost me 173.91.so far all is good with it at the moment 2days and no cutting out cant remember the last day i had a good day with it.cheers for some of the solutions given

wot happens is the sensor heats up and destroys the signal to the ecu this causes it not to start. quite prone on golf so i been told

I would give the temp sensor a change first as these can be problematic and only cost a tenner...
And get the fault codes read, keep note of them, clear them and run around as normal for a week then get them read again and see what show's up (you can buy reader's for £30-50 much cheaper than your local specialist which quoted me £70 to do them once)
