F :embarassed:

Well nearly!!
not had my car long golf gti mk3 1993, tonight driving along lights on then suddenly smoke from ignition casing, stopped quickly switched off car and lights and smoke stopped, it wasnt massive amounts but smoke is bad! ripped off ign casing and could see no obvious probs.

except some idiot has hammed in a clifford (old alarm) at some stage and their is signs of black tape etc??

is it an idea to remove this completely as its dixconnected and tape up all the wiring etc, incase it was a short that caused it!! my mrs drives car alot with my little girl in and it will frwak here when i tell her!!

is there any known problems with the mk3 in regards to fire etc??

thanks

I had exactly the same symptoms a while ago, it was caused by the ignition switch.
