gutted...
« on: 29 April 2006, 15:37 »
Went to pick up my mk4 gti turbo that i was buying today in edinburgh, got 30 miles outside edinburgh, started getting flatspots, losing all power so had to pull over.

Tried starting up, starts fine but revs so low it cuts out

So... phone garage he says get it towed to him at his expense, call RAC the technician dont really know whats up and since i only have cheap RAC he cant tow me more than 10 miles, so... get a tow truck back to garage for issue to be resolved

Reckon it could be the cat that has started disintegrating inside (??) and blocking exhaust gases which is causing stalling and flatspots.... anyway, garage will be getting it fixed and said he would make it up to me.

Any other opinions apart from cat?

Yep, could be a good reason..... Or could be a knackered lambda sensor???

Good luck, & hope they sort it pronto, pal.

Maf's, lambda's, coil packs, yhey are all a pain in the arse, and VAG COM seems to mis diagnose them quite a lot

Right... the problem was a fauly temperature sender (something like that) was causing the car to overfuel, so they have replaced it and say its driving fine now, would the overfuelling be causing it to run slower too?

If theres too much fuel to too little air you havent got a correct mixture to combust so messes with efficiency and performance.
