Hi Guys

Got the first problems with the golf  :undecided:

i think the mount had gone when i got it but the pump seemed to start the other day

I Need Help with Gearbox Mount and Water Pump.

I have both the parts and need some help in fitting, is there anyone that could sort this for me i am willing to pay or could anyone point in the right direction

I think it is the water pump that need sorting as it is squeeking like a hamster ball...

I also need to bleed the brakes as the pedal is a bit spongy

What sort of price would i be looking for labor on this if i take it to a garage, what sort of time will it take

Cheers Guys

Whereabouts are you?
The gearbox mount is dead easy:
1. Put a trolley jack under the end of the gearbox, and raise it just enough to support the weight of the box for now.
2. Remove headertank from its mountings, it will either pop straght out, or if its the round type you'll need to remove the plastic trim & 2 nuts/studs, then place it out of the way (no need to disconnect any pipes or anything, theres enough slack to just move it elsewhere)
3. Undo the large centre bolt through the centre of the gearbox mounting, and the 2 smaller bolts holding the mount to the subframe.
4. Remove the gear linkages with the plastic end caps from the bracket bolted to the gearbox.  Be carefull with these as the ends like to shear off.  Then remove the bracket, I've highlighted 2 of the required bolts here, and you can see where the plastic linkages connect:

5. Now jack the gearbox up as far as it will go, take it slowly as the end of the box will eventually hit the passenger side chassis leg
6. The bottom bracket you unbolted earlier should fall out, if not you missed a bolt ;)  Remove this and set to one side.  You will now have just enough room to whip out the old mount and slot in the replacement
7. Refitting is the reverse of removal

forgot to mention, the waterpump isn't especially difficult either, the hardest part is swaping the pulleys over since you have to figure out a way to hold the pulley still while you undo the bolts

If you have PAS its slightly more tricky as the pump & brakets cover the pump so all this needs to be unbolted and moved out of the way.

If you plan to bleed the brakes, invest in an eezi-bleed, it uses pressure from your spare tire (you have to drop the psi down a fair bit though)  Makes bleeding the brakes a doddle.  Only thing to remember is when you get to the rears, you have to hold the brake pressure compensator open on the rear beam. If you imagine what would happen as more weight is put in the back of the car and the beam moves upwards, you need to hold the bracket like that if you get me!
