Estorils - on MK2??
« on: 02 December 2003, 16:04 »
Looking at putting 15" Estorils on my 1991(H) 8V GTI.  My insurance company (grabbing b@stards) have said that they will charge me more if the wheels are non standard.  Can anyone confirm whether these wheels were an option on this car?

Me dont like those, why not go for BBS wheels they look better or better still go for aftermarket alloys. I work for an insurance broker, most of the insurance companies I ask about alloys just increase the excess and require locknuts. But there are few like the ones you are with who seem to be after all the money they can................... I agree grabbing bastads

Cheers Gambit, does H 91 count as a 'late mk2'?

Those wheels look superb, did you get them refurbed and polished yourself, if so who did you use, I'm looking to do similar with mine.

I like the BBS RAs too, these just came available so I thought why not.  Don't want anything new as I am trying to keep the stock look.  I'm with Direct Line, their quote was the best I could get, but adding another 1/5th on the premium for some old alloys takes the piss in my book.

I have a 1990 8v with a set of BBS RA alloys that were fitted after t left the factory. I have told the insurance company that the car is standard as these wheels were an optional extra from VW, do you think the insurance company agree with me?

I dont think they note what wheels were on when bought, my insurance caompany just said if it had alloys on it when it was made they couldnt give a fu.ck what alloys are on it, standard or not.

Wait n see what they see if you claim and say "I told you I have ?500 worth of 17's on it" I bet they give a fcuk then and say no sir these are not covered or summink similar. I kin hate insurers, they seem to be in win win situations while the insured are in lose lose situations.
