Gear selection alignment... mk2
« on: 02 December 2003, 14:46 »
i've got a mk2 16v, and yesterday my gear selection messed up. The front engine mount is on its way out and ive been driving it for 4 days with it like it is.

but now i can't get it into first gear properly. I have to push down the gearknob and head into reverse but not actually put it in reverse. if you know what im saying.

whats the best way 2 sort it???

i'm changing the mount in the morning at my mates VW garage/breakers. Should i replace it with a standard 16v mount or can i use a VR6 one??

the linkage seems to be fine, it just sort of happened all of a sudden, so i can't see it being wear. Might just change it all anyway....  :(

Do you get a rattle noise when you go over a bump due to a worn engine mount?

Nice car by the way Dave. Think I saw it on DemonVW?

What size/ rims are they?

thanx  ;D yeah, it is my car on demonvw m8.

the wheels are 17" BK racing. bit of a bugger to clean, especially now ive got discs all round, but they're worth it i suppose.

well, the exhaust keeps bangin on the rear axle and started blowing 2 days after i sorted it. I gotta get it on the ramp to line up the joints properly.

Has anyone got a VR6 front engine mount on their car?? i figure it would take the strain of me caining it better  ;)

just use the late 16v Hydro mount, not the rubber bonded one

wont fit

G60 & late 16v share the same rear hydro mount

different fronts though

vwspares.co.uk are cheap for front hydro mounts

My 1990 16v is difficult to put into 2nd gear without crunching particularly when cold. I think it has a quick shift kit on it and always assumed this is a worn syncromesh (its does about 138k). Is that the likely problem or could it be a gear linkage alignment problem? No other probs with it. Any thoughts? Thanks  ;D

I used to have to do that with 1st on my 16V until I replaced the gear linkage bushes. It was the one nearest the engine that was causing the problem, if thats any help?
